Skip to contentMutendero Washing Station is 1 of 9 washing stations owned by Virunga Coffee. Set up to produce high quality specialty coffees
and increase premiums for farmers throughout the region, the Mutendero station sits at the highest altitude of the 9, in a region
with excellent conditions for specialty Arabica production, including rainfall and fertile volcanic soils.
Ripe cherries are sorted and pulped at the wet mill, then fermented for 18-24 hours. After the mucilage has been broken down, the parchment coffee is washed and dried on raised beds for 12-18 days. The process results in a smooth, sweet coffee with flavours of butterscotch and pineapple.
